Forget about keeping up with the Joneses. If you’re keeping score of who’s who and what’s what in Social Media, you may have no idea who the hell the Joneses even are/were. But there is a great chance you’ve heard of the Jessicas. If the Joneses are noted for their conspicuous consumption, the Jessicas are noted for their conspicuous presence. Here there and everywhere you look, you will find these women. Their wealth is most evident in their followings, their “reach”, their google ranks and the fact that Nielsen’s has ranked both Jessica Smith and Jessica Gottlieb as power moms.
Why do Jessica Smith and Jessica Gottlieb fascinate and intrigue so many people? And what do they have in common? They are each like celebrities in twitter circles, entities unto themselves and oft attacked. Each of them has endured a barrage of criticism in the last year, from detractors, from fans and even from each other. And yet they emerge, with grace, and apparently, respect for one another.
I can’t tell you exactly what it is about these two women that has me tuning in for more. I can only speak in character abstractions. Courage, confidence, chutzpah, wisdom, acumen, connectedness, boundless energy. These are the qualities that everyone scrambles for. It’s the essence of their Jonesian/Jessica-esque sheen. It’s not easy keeping up with the Jessicas. Love them or hate them, you have to acknowledge them. And try and keep up, if you can.

Well said. What makes someone stand apart in my eyes is their ability to be opinionated without tearing someone else down. These gals hold themselves accountable for their impact on the Twitterverse and beyond. I appreciate that.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting @jessicaknows a few times and she is as amazing in real life as she is on Twitter. Super, super smart. A real social media heavyweight! But very nice and personable as well. Love her!

we’ve had our moments, Jessica and I, but at the end of the day I love me some good Gottlieb.

I think that both women have proven themselves to have blogs worthy enough to read. Jessica Smith has proven herself time and time again with how she uses social media for effective marketing. Jessica Gottlieb is honest about articles and information she finds important. Often times honesty gets lost in social media and blogging. Both women have earned their spots in social media and deserve the attention they receive.
I completely agree with you. They sure have taken a lot of criticism lately, but yet they both keep a very positive attitude and stick firmly to their beliefs. They are both very willing to share their knowledge and information with others and are quite accessible.
I have to say I do not know both of the Jessica’s very much. I do know Jessica Smith – @jessicaknows and she is a wonderful inspiration, a great friend and so full of positive energy!
Okay, I’m just sitting here incredibly flattered and thinking, “but OMG don’t you know about [add the name of about a dozen women here]”
But I’m learning to be gracious, so I’ll just say thank you, and continue on with my pot stirring (and smoking)
